RCMP Press Release

Bonnyville RCMP have arrested a man in relation to two armed robberies.

Over the weekend, RCMP arrested Shyan Coon, 22, after a short pursuit near St. Paul.

Coon was apprehended in a stolen truck, and is facing 18 charges including robbery, pointing a firearm, wearing disguise in the commission of an indictable offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime, flight, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, and failing to comply with conditions.

The suspect will remain in custody and is set to appear in court Tuesday, May 1.

Coon’s charges stem from a robbery on Thursday, April 26, at about 11:20 p.m., when RCMP responded to a call from the downtown 7-Eleven where a man with a gun had robbed them at gunpoint.

Coon had entered the store wearing a balaclava, and took an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before fleeing.

Seven hours later, on April 27, the Co-Op Gas Bar on 54 Ave. in Bonnyville also became a victim of the same crime.

At 6:35 a.m., Coon, in a newer, red, and possibly stolen Ford F-150, pulled up to the gas bar. Wearing a balaclava and a hood over his head, he entered the store brandishing a gun.

Coon instructed the clerks to hand over cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene.

No injuries were a result of either robbery.

Drinking and driving leads to substance charges

A vehicle in the ditch near Franchere Bay sparked concern for local residents, who called the RCMP on April 22.

When they arrived, officers discovered an intoxicated male.

After failing a roadside sample, the male was arrested.

During a search of his person and vehicle, RCMP found a controlled substance.

The 28-year-old Cold Lake male will appear in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse in June.
