A Bonnyville RCMP officer sustained minor injuries after two suspects rammed a police vehicle in attempt to flee.
Christian Lee Bubar, 32, and Kaylin Desmarais, 26 of La Corey, were arrested following a break and enter on Feb. 27.
RCMP responded to the call at 11:20 p.m.
“The complainant reported two suspects on the property, they had fled in a U-Haul truck, hitting the complainant on their way out,” detailed Sgt. Kim Hillier.
Police located the truck driving on Hwy. 28, travelling at a high rate of speed.
“Police pursued, and the suspects rammed the RCMP vehicle," Hillier described.
A passenger jumped out of the truck and was arrested without further incident before the vehicle sped off.
The truck collided into a ditch near St. Lina and the driver fled on foot. Police Dog Services responded and assisted in the arrest of the suspect who suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. He was later released back into police custody.
The complainant also sustained minor injuries to his chest.
Bubar has yet to speak to release and will appear in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse on Tuesday, March 5. He has been charged with break and enter, assault with a weapon, assault on a police officer with a weapon, failing to comply, failing to attend, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and flight from police.
Desmarais was released on a $3,000 no-cash bail. Her next court appearance in March 26.
"She has been charged with break and enter, assault with a weapon, assault on a police officer, and failing to comply with the conditions of a recognizance," said Hillier.
Female causing a disturbance at local apartment building
Police were called to a Bonnyville apartment building at 7:45 a.m. on Feb. 25.
Jennifer Houle, 38, was arrested and charged with mischief and failing to comply with a recognizance after the manager of the apartment building reported a female causing a disturbance, kicking garbage cans, and punching holes in the walls.
According to Hillier, she also had outstanding warrants from Pierceland, SK.
She was "highly intoxicated" at the time of her arrest.
Mailbox thieves at it again
RCMP are asking the public for information about two Canada Post Superbox break-ins.
Between Feb. 25 to 26, two mailboxes in town were broken into, one on 40 St. and another on 43 Ave.
Hillier said a large cube van or possibly a U-Haul is suspected to be involved.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the local RCMP at 780-343-7200.
RCMP ask public to be on the lookout for two trucks
The public is being asked by RCMP to keep their eyes out for the two vehicles involved in the attempted break and enter at the Glendon Korner Mart on Feb. 19.
Police have released images of the suspect vehicles.
One is a silver Toyota Tacoma with distinct features. It's a newer model, silver in colour, with a vent hood.
The second vehicle involved is an older model Ford Ranger, dark in colour, matte, with red door handles and side-view mirrors.
