BONNYVILLE – A string of vehicle thefts resulted in a police vehicle being rammed, two arrests being made, and an ongoing search for additional suspects.

Just before 6 a.m. on Feb. 23, police say unknown culprits were driving around Bonnyville in a stolen white Ford Explorer SUV scoping out running vehicles in parking lots.

A white International work truck that was left unlocked, running with the keys in the ignition located in a parking lot in the area of 64 Street and 50 Avenue, became the target of theft by the unknown number of culprits.

“Video surveillance shows one culprit exiting the stolen SUV, entering the International truck and driving away all within seconds,” states an RCMP Media release.

Later that same day, the stolen Ford Explorer allegedly rammed a police vehicle around noon in Fishing Lake.

A 23-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman from Fishing Lake have been arrested.

Both are facing charges in connection with a multitude of offences following a joint investigation by Elk Point RCMP, Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, Police Dog Services and K Division Air Services.

The International truck was found abandoned several hours later by Cold Lake RCMP on Range Road 420 near Township Road 620.

Anyone with information on the theft of the truck or the culprit(s) who stole it is urged to contact the Bonnyville RCMP.
