Court Report 2

A common offender in Bonnyville was sentenced to 60 days in custody.

Kyle Nadeau plead guilty to mischief causing damage and resisting a peace officer following an incident on Dec. 20, 2018.

It was around 3:30 p.m. when local RCMP were called to an attempted break-in. The caller claimed Nadeau was high on methamphetamine and trying to break into their neighbour's house.

Police responded and located Nadeau.

When they attempted to arrest the 32-year-old, he resisted, threatening the officer.

During his court appearance on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Nadeau pled guilty to the two charges, and clarified that at the time of the incident, he wasn't high.

He also told Honourable Judge Kathleen Williams that he hadn't been trying to break into the residence, he was kicking the door.

Nadeau described the incident and his actions as "disrespectful."

Crown prosecutor Jody Woligroski was seeking 60 days in custody.

Nadeau is well-known to local RCMP and has 11 property-related convictions on his record since 2013.

He has struggled with addiction issues, and recently completed a 28-day rehabilitation program.

Nadeau said he's moved into a new apartment and wants to get started on trades school when he's finished serving his sentence.

"(Nadeau) always takes responsibility for what he's done," Williams said before sentencing him to 60 days in custody.

As of his court appearance, Nadeau had 21 days left to serve.
