Stepping in resulted in charges

Officers "just trying to do their job " had someone try and stand in their way.
Court Report 2

Officers "just trying to do their job" had someone try and stand in their way.

Crown prosecutor Renato Di Lorenzo told the court Serena Anne John was overcome with emotion when a Bonnyville RCMP officer tried to arrest the male she was walking down the road with on warrants.

At 1:25 a.m. on Sept. 8, a local police officer was driving in Kehewin when he came across John and her male companion, who was known to be wanted on warrants.

The officer pulled over and informed the male there was a warrant out for his arrest, and in response, the man rolled away on his bike and said "no there ain't," described Di Lorenzo on Tuesday in court.

The officer attempted to arrest the male, but John physically intervened, grabbing the officer.

On Oct. 22, John appeared in court and pleaded guilty to obstructing a peace officer. She was sentenced to a $500 fine and one day in jail.

Di Lorenzo stressed how aggravating it can be for officers just trying to do their job to have someone try to physically intervene.

John had served her jail sentence prior to her court appearance.
