There will be another officer in charge of enforcing Town of Bonnyville bylaws.
Council voted unanimously in favour of implementing a new community peace officer program during their Feb. 13 meeting.
"Administration has recommended the creation of the position, community peace officer level one. By doing that, we would, in effect, start our own in-house program. Our officer would be able to focus on bylaw enforcement," detailed assistant CAO Bill Rogers.

Town to hold crime forum
The Town of Bonnyville is inviting the public to voice their concerns and discuss solutions at an open crime forum on Monday, April 16.
Bonnyville Mayor Gene Sobolewski wants to ensure the right people get the chance to speak, before residents have the opportunity to ask one-on-one questions with delegates.
"I think we have to limit speaking. Last time around, there were talking heads, and there were people that had really good information, particularly the RCMP and victim services," said Sobolewski. "Politicians can, and should, be there. But we don't need to be at the head table."

Town to negotiate rodeo grounds lease
Council will begin the process of trying to transfer ownership of the rodeo grounds to the Bonnyville Agricultural Society.
The current lease between the town and the ag society needs revamping due to one of the signees dropping out. Instead, the town would like to begin transferring ownership to the society, if an agreement can be met between the two.
"We need to ask whether or not there's a use the Town of Bonnyville has for the land. If there's none, why are we leasing the land?" stated Sobolewski. "Leases are great when everybody gets along, but if there's a major legal issue, let's say the ag society won't be able to cover, the individual will come after the land owner."

Town helping Tuneagers to Barrhead
Council voted unanimously in favour of donating $250 to the Bonnyville Tuneagers to support travel costs to an upcoming choir festival in Barrhead.
"It says right in our policies we support events that enhances the town's general profile or status, and that's what they're doing. I see no problem in supporting them," said Coun. Brian McEvoy.

Council ready to get curling

There will be a team representing the Town of Bonnyville at the upcoming Village of Glendon Pyrogy Bonspiel on March 10.
"We're going to look at putting a team in. It's a really fun, not very serious event; we're looking forward to it," said Sobolewski.
