Two Bonnyville area men have been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 21-year-old Ashmont area man. The deceased’s body was found outside the Glendon Hotel just after 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Two area men have been charged with second-degree murder following an incident in the Village of Glendon early Wednesday morning.

Edgar Kenneth Milnthorp, 31, from Ardmore, and Shannon John Burshtinski, 37, from Glendon, have both been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Jesse Brendan Miller, 21, who is from the Ashmont area.

The RCMP issued a press release Thursday afternoon stating Milnthorp and Burshtinski have been remanded in custody with their next court appearance set for Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Bonnyville provincial court.

An autopsy was completed by the medical examiner's office in Edmonton, but the cause and manner of death has not been announced, pending a further investigation by the medical examiner's office, the RCMP said.

Milnthorp voluntarily turned himself into the RCMP in the hours following the incident, while Burshtinski also voluntarily turned himself into police on Thursday, say police.

No other suspects are being sought in this incident.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, the Bonnyville RCMP were advised of a male who had been the victim in an apparent physical altercation at the Glendon Hotel, police said in an earlier press release.

When police arrived on the scene, they located a male lying outside the hotel, who was pronounced dead by emergency services personnel.

The area around the hotel was cordoned off and police-issued yellow tape was still clearly visible in a large portion of Glendon's downtown area near the hotel Thursday.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or feels they may have information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact the RCMP in Bonnyville at 780-826-3350 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-8477.

Village of Glendon Mayor Larry Lofstrand said everyone in the small town is upset by what has taken place.

"It's devastating that something like this actually happened in our little village," he said. "I don't know a lot of the details, but the fact is a young man was killed and it's just devastating."
