BONNYVILLE - Two dogs that were inside a vehicle when it was allegedly stolen in Bonnyville were later recovered and returned to their owners.

On May 11, just before noon, Bonnyville RCMP received a call about a truck that had been stolen from a parking lot at Eastpointe Way.

"The owners' two pet dogs were inside the truck when it was stolen," according to RCMP. "The truck was later spotted by a Cold Lake RCMP member near the Elizabeth Métis Settlement and neighbouring detachments moved in to assist."

The vehicle continued on to Highway 897 and refused to pull over for police, according to RCMP.

"A successful spike belt was deployed by an Elk Point RCMP member bringing the vehicle to an eventual stop in a nearby field. Once the vehicle came to a rest, a member of the Bonnyville detachment arrested the male and took him into custody."

According to police, the dogs had been let out of the truck at a local construction site before being located by RCMP. The dogs were returned to their owner unharmed.

The man was found to be on a Canada-wide warrant issued by the Parole Board of Canada.

According to Bonnyville RCMP, the incident was a good example of how neighbouring detachments work together.

Myron Moyah, 21, of Fishing Lake, has been charged with possession of property over $5,000, flight from police, driving while unauthorized, driving an uninsured vehicle and failing to comply with a release order. He was brought before a Justice of the Peace who remanded him in custody. He has a court date set for May 20.
