Wyatt James Whitford pled guilty for possessing the insignia and a gas card for the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA).
On Tuesday, March 5, Whitford appeared in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse via CCTV to plead guilty to two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The charges stem from a July 23, 2018 offence, when RCMP located Whitford and a second accused inside of a stolen truck. They were located at the Co-op Cardlock in Bonnyville, and were arrested without incident.
During a search, police found the insignia for the BRFA, as well as a Co-op Cardlock Card belonging to the fire department.
A bag containing bear spray was found in the truck.
Whitford admitted it was his.
At the time of his arrest, Whitford was under a six-month conditional sentence order, followed by a six-month probation order.
According to St. Paul's chief Crown prosecutor Jordan Kerr, Whitford had also been failing to comply with the condition of an order that requires him to answer reporting calls.
It was because of these factors the order was terminated and he would serve the remainder of his time in custody.
Kerr couldn't confirm what was left of Whitford's sentence, but estimated 85 days.
Whitford adjourned sentencing until April 25 for the completion of a pre-sentence report.
He will appear in court on March 19 in relation to other charges.
