LA COREY - The Willow Prairie Ag Society hosted its annual Farm Fair in La Corey, including a live evening performance from country music artist Corb Lund.
The fair had lots of family-friendly activities with farm animals to pet, games to play, tractors to explore, and food to eat, followed by entertainment in the evenings that included a watch party of an Oilers’ playoff game on the big screen and performances by the Rivard Sisters, Shane Larmand, and Corb Lund.
Clayton Mackinnon, marketing and Communications for the Willow Prairie Ag Society, said this is the first year they have included a large evening concert, and its success exceeded their expectations.
“The Farm Fair is steadily growing – this is the second time we’ve done an evening event. We wanted to see what we could do this year . . . Last year, for the watch party, we didn’t get a huge turnout . . . So, we were talking with volunteers and asked, ‘What would be a dream if we did this again next year?’ One of the guys said he’d like to bring in Corb Lund, so we said let’s give it a shot,” said Mackinnon.
Ticket sales for the evening show went well, and Mackinnon spoke about the countless hours volunteers put into making it happen, and how wonderful it was for all the hard work to pay off.
“This year really blew our expectations out of the water . . . It was a lot of late nights, phone calls, and meetings to figure this all out. We’ve been planning since November,” said Mackinnon.
Speaking about why he got involved with the event, he commended the wonderful team at the Willow Prairie Ag, and the strong community spirit that makes the event so special.
“You meet lots of folks. It’s fantastic to see the community come out, and everyone comes together to pull off this event. If we need something, there is always someone that we can call. Everyone wanted to come out and make this event a success. From little things to big things – donations, tables, garbage bins – there's always someone willing to chip in and help out,” said Mackinnon.
The weekend featured an array of offerings, including a quilt show, rhubarb fest with a pie contest, an artisan market, and a fur and flock market.
“This event is so unique. It brings so many different walks of life to it. There’s something for everyone,” said Mackinnon.
