A call to the St. Paul RCMP detachment led local officers to an intoxicated driver.
Corey Piche appeared in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse on Tuesday, April 17 to face charges stemming from a March 8 incident where he was charged with resisting a peace officer, refusing to provide a sample, and failing to provide proof of insurance ticket.
Standing before the court on Tuesday, he pled guilty to the two charges, and accepted $1,733 in fines as a result.
On March 8, the St. Paul RCMP received a call from a concerned resident about a vehicle swerving in Bonnyville.
Local officers located the vehicle described by the caller and conducted a traffic stop.
During discussions with Piche, who had been driving the vehicle at the time, officers noted an odour of alcohol coming from his breath, along with open liquor containers inside the vehicle.
When asked to provide a road-side sample, Piche refused, and was subsequently arrested.
As Piche was being taken to cells at the Bonnyville detachment, he started to resist arrest, forcing officers to wrestle him into cells.
During his court appearance, Piche said, “This is by far the worst thing that has happened to me.”
He apologized for his actions, directing his remorse towards the RCMP members involved.
“I would apologize to the police officer if he was here,” he expressed.
Along with the fines, Piche was sentenced to a one-year driving prohibition.
