RCMP Press Release

Three kids under the age of 12 were determined to be responsible for damage caused to a local apartment.

According to Sgt. Sarah Parke, acting detachment commander for the Bonnyville RCMP, the youth broke into a vacant apartment just before 11 a.m. on Sept. 22, where they smashed windows, broke drywall, and caused other damage.

"It was determined there were three (suspects) all under the age of 12. They're dealt with by other means besides criminal code charges. Their parents are involved and it's concluded as a police matter at this point," explained Parke.

She added, "The provisions were set out by the police liaising with the parents and the property representative to come up with an alternative resolution to charges based on their age."

Dog owner fined after town employee bitten

On Sept. 21, Bonnyville RCMP were notified by the town that one of their employees had been bitten by a dog.

"They were trying to apprehend a loose dog in town under the dog bylaw, and was subsequently bit by the dog," Parke noted.

The owner, a 44-year-old Bonnyville male, was fined for having a dog at large, public nuisance, and unregistered dog.

Unwanted male caught taking a nap

Local RCMP were called to a Kehewin residence in the early morning hours of Sept. 22 regarding an unwanted male.

"We attended and spoke to the complainant who advised the male was trying to break down the door," Parke noted.

The female told police she had climbed out of a bedroom window in order to get away, and was picked up by a family member while they waited for RCMP to arrive.

When police entered the residence, they located Sean Stone, a 31-year-old Kehewin male, inside asleep on the couch.

According to Parke, he was connected to the house in some way, but was unwanted, unexpected, and not invited.

"He was arrested for failing to comply with conditions he was on, and breaking and entering," detailed Parke.

Stone was "extremely intoxicated," and was lodged in cells until he was sober.

He will appear in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse on Oct. 2.

Impaired driver located in a ditch

Police have charged a driver with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and driving with a blood alcohol level over .08 after an incident on Sept. 26.

It was about 2:30 a.m. when RCMP came across a vehicle parked in the ditch.

"They determined the driver had fallen asleep behind the wheel," said Parke.

The vehicle was running at the time.

The female passenger was breaching her curfew, and was charged as a result, while the driver was found to be impaired, providing samples over the legal limit.

Flight from police still ends in arrest

A 24-year-old Kehewin woman still ended up behind bars, even after attempting to lie and flee from police.

Dakota Gadwa is facing multiple charges after a Sept. 25 incident.

It was around 8:30 p.m. when police were patrolling in the Kehewin area.

"They attempted a traffic stop... She didn't pull-over at first, but did shortly after," said Parke.

Gadwa, who was wanted on warrants, lied to the officer about her identity. While RCMP were running a check on the given name on the mobile computer in the police cruiser, Gadwa got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

"She was located hiding in the woods nearby and was arrested," Parke expressed.

Gadwa has been charged with obstructing a peace officer and failing to pull over for police.

Several vehicles broken into, F250 stolen

Police are reminding residents it's important to lock up and remove your valuables from your vehicle, after a wallet containing credit cards, debit cards, a driver's license, and other documents, was stolen.

On Sept. 27, a resident reported their vehicle had been broken into and their wallet had been stolen on 55 St. in Bonnyville.

"Regardless of whether the culprit plans to do anything with those documents, it's a huge hassle now for this victim," Parke described.

On the same block, just a few days before, a different vehicle had items stolen after the owner left the vehicle unlocked.

Prescription drugs and sunglasses were taken from a Ford F150 on Sept. 25, and a black Ford F250 was stolen from Range Rd. 470.
