COLD LAKE - Creating awareness and drawing support for animals in need is once again the goal for this year’s upcoming Bark in the Park.

The second annual Bark in the Park event will be held on Aug. 19 at the Lakeland Humane Society’s new location, which is located at 43017 HW55 West Cold Lake.

The event will start at 12 p.m. and run until 7 p.m. The day will feature live music from Cold Lake's own Tiago James band, a vendor’s market, and activities and games for all ages, according to Danielle Donovan, shelter manager with the Lakeland Humane Society.

Pawsitive Dog Sports will also be on hand putting on a show. A barbecue, 50/50 draw, treats and more will also help make for a full day of fun.

The Lakeland Humane Society also continues to run its Chace the Ace Draw, raising funds to support the society and animals in need.

As of Aug. 10, organizers were also still actively looking for volunteers to help out with the Bark in the Park event, along with welcoming more sponsors and vendors. All inquiries can be sent to [email protected] or people can stop by the Humane Society from 1-4:30 p.m., daily.

Donovan noted that the Lakeland Humane Society has been dealing with an influx of cats and dogs over the last several months. Adoptions have also slowed down, and the shelter has been working at maximum capacity.

“The Lakeland Humane Society is encouraging anyone who has been thinking about adopting to come to our shelter speak with the staff and meet our animals,” says Donovan.

All adoptable animals can be found on our website. The society is also always actively looking for volunteers and foster families to lend a hand.
