COLD LAKE - The 6th Annual Battle of the Books was held at the Cold Lake Public Library on May 4. This annual event is a partnership between the public library and schools in the area.

This year, because the event was held on May 4, there was a Star Wars theme incorporated into the event. Thirteen teams competed in the challenge to see who knew the most about the books that were on the reading lists they were given back in the fall of 2022. The winning teams were given a plaque for their school and individual medals and certificates.

During a break between the four rounds, the students snacked on vegetables and Smile Cookies from Tim Hortons. All the proceeds from the Smile Cookies went to Cold Lake Victim Services this year. Dave Zimmerman and Safety Bear from Cold Lake Victim Services, a Cold Lake RCMP officer, and Bill Parker from Cold Lake City council, joined Darth Vader to welcome the kids to the Battle of the Books.

The afternoon ended with a presentation from various authors of the books they read, each containing personal messages to the students in Cold Lake.
