COLD LAKE - Bryan Collins, the man convicted in the August 2020 death of Kevin Evans, has been sentenced to serve eight years in prison, less time served.

Collins pled guilty to manslaughter in April in relation to the murder of 41-year-old Evans. His sentencing was scheduled for June 22.

The Elizabeth Métis Settlement man appeared in the St. Paul Provincial Courthouse on Tuesday where he was handed an eight-year prison sentence less time served.

Collins has over 6.5 years remaining and is subject to a 10-year firearms prohibition.

In the early morning hours of Aug. 9, 2020, Cold Lake RCMP were called about an adult male, later identified as Evans, who was found deceased outside of the Petro Canada Gas Station on Hwy. 28.

An investigation into the incident led the RCMP Major Crimes Unit to Collins and a 17-year-old youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
