COLD LAKE - Hearts for Healthcare and the MD of Bonnyville are holding the second annual Sparkle in the Park from Dec. 4 to Dec. 9 at the Cold Lake MD campground.

Alexis Corbin, a member of the fundraising committee for Hearts for Healthcare, stated last year they planned for 100 vehicles a night. Being an inaugural event, organizers did not think they would raise a lot of money, but the community embraced the display of lights and music, and the amount of donations exceeded expectations.

"Last year, we filled 21 stalls in the campground and raised $16,000. We saw over 1,800 vehicles go through the four nights, and we were able to take four truck loads of food to the Cold Lake Food Bank," Corbin explained. The aim of the event is to spread joy during the holidays, while also collecting cash donations for Hearts for Healthcare in support of mental health, and food for the local food bank.

On Dec. 2 and 3, businesses, organizations, sports teams and families can decorate a campground site for the event. Corbin has seen displays built on site, while some are built off-site and moved in with a trailer. The size of the displays last year varied, but everyone is encouraged to advertise their local business or organization with banners.

On Dec 4, Sparkle in the Park will open the gates and people can drive - or weather-permitting walk - through the display route, which begins with a decorated entrance created by Hearts for Healthcare. The lights are on from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night, with the last night, on Dec. 9 including an outdoor artisan market, weather permitting.

"It's the perfect opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done," said Corbin.

The feedback organizers received last year was amazing and Corbin hopes they can continue this new tradition in the coming years.

Cash donations or food bank items will be accepted at the entrance of Sparkle in the Park.

Visitors will also once again have the chance to vote for their favourite display. Last year's winner was a display by the Janvier Gallery.

"We look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with this year," said Corbin.
