COLD LAKE - On Oct. 10, Cold Lake Fire-Rescue held an open house at their North and South locations as part of National Fire Prevention Week, which ran from Oct. 8-14. Firefighters and volunteers were available for tours of the fire halls, and people in attendance could grab a free hot dog or hamburger, and enter their name in for prize draws.

Cold Lake firefighter Adam Mcaloney shared his kitchen safety tips.

"Don't pour hot oil down drains. Don't put water on grease fires, be aware of your surroundings in the kitchen, don't leave pots unattended, and keep at least a one metre buffer between children and hot areas in the kitchen," he said.

At the South hall, Sparky, the mascot, was there greeting the many visitors who stopped by.

Firefighter Andrew Fitch was in attendance and said this year, it was the best attendance he had ever seen for the open house.
