Cold Lake library hosting Travelling Exhibition Program

Along with hosting the Arts Travelling Exhibition Program, the Cold Lake Library also received a new circulating cake pan and cookie cutter collection recently.

COLD LAKE - The Alberta Foundation for the Arts Travelling Exhibition Program (TREX) made its way to Cold Lake on June 29.

The exhibition, Never Ending Poetry, will be on display at the Cold Lake Public Library South Branch until July 25. After that, the exhibit is being packed up and sent to Onoway Public Library for a month.

The display features the work of six Alberta based artists. Instead of words, they use a variety of materials to express meaning.

Cold Lake Library Director Leslie Price stated this was not the first time the library received a travelling exhibit from Edmonton, but it had been awhile since they were able to receive one.

"You really have to sign up early if you would like one of the exhibits," she explained. Past exhibits included, Farming in the Dust Bowl, which featured artwork reflective of life in the 1930s, A Cordial Word, which featured flowers and gardens, and Tales From a Fish Scale, which showcased art that examines the beauty of fish and the responsibility we have for taking care of lakes and rivers.

Every year, the TREX program aims to share Alberta art exhibits in schools, libraries, health care centres, and small galleries in the province so all Albertans can enjoy the work of contemporary Alberta based artists.

New Circulating Collection

The same day that the TREX program arrived, the Cold Lake Public Library launched its new circulating cake pans and cookie cutter collection.

The 50+ items in the collection includes holiday themed pans, cartoon characters, and library related pans. The pans can be borrowed by using a Cold Lake Public Library (TRACpac) card.

Items were purchased with grant money from the Medley CFB Society grant. The addition of the cake pans and cookie cutters helped supplement the Home Resource Collection. Funds from the grant also support Cook Book Clubs that happen monthly at the library, the monthly Spice Club, and funds will also be used to purchase new cookbooks for the library.

The new cake pans collection is kept at the South Branch, and it can be viewed on the library web site.
