Cold Lake man charged with murder in fatal stabbing

A 30-year-old Cold Lake man has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal stabbing on June 21.

A Cold Lake man has been charged with second-degree murder following a stabbing earlier this week.

COLD LAKE - A 30-year-old Cold Lake man has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal stabbing on June 21.

Local RCMP responded to a call about a stabbing in Cold Lake north at about 1:30 p.m. earlier this week. 

Police and emergency medical services arrived on scene and located a 58-year-old female who had suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The suspect was arrested on scene. 

The next day, RCMP charged 30-year-old Guillaume Nelson Gilbert of Cold Lake with the murder of Guylaine Simone Poulin following an investigation involving the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit and local detachment. The RCMP Forensic Identification Services Unit was also called in to assist. 

An autopsy of the victim has been scheduled for tomorrow at the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Gilbert has been remanded into custody and will appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on July 14. 

"This incident is believed to be isolated and there are no concerns for the safety of the public," an RCMP press release said.
