Cold Lake RCMP arrest man on Canada-wide warrants

COLD LAKE – On Thursday evening at 6 p.m., Cold Lake RCMP responded to information of a man who was wanted on Canada-wide warrants and was potentially armed at a residence in Cold Lake. 

According to an RCMP report, when police arrived at the Cold Lake residence they were informed that two women along with the male suspect were inside. 

When police made contact with the individuals, the man refused to leave the residence, say police. 

The scene was immediately contained by police.

Dispatched to the scene was the RCMP's Emergency Response Team (ERT) from Edmonton, the Police Dog Services, as well as the RCMP Air Services. Police also re-routed traffic around the area as a precaution. 

In a statement released Oct. 18, Cold Lake RCMP stated, as the event unfolded on Thursday evening police had continuous contact with man and two women inside the residence, who police have confirmed were known to each other.  

“At 1:30 a.m. the RCMP ERT team and Cold Lake officers entered the residence and arrested the man without incident,” RCMP added. 

Skylar Ochuschayoo, 26, was charged with possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a weapon,  possession of a prohibited weapon, obstructing a peace officer and five counts of possession of a weapon contrary to order. 

Ochuschayoo was remanded into custody after a hearing and will appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court Oct 19, 2021 at 9:30 am. 

No further information will be made available by RCMP as the matter is now before the courts.
