Cold Lake reflects on Red Dress Day

Families and friends of missing and murdered women and girls took the time to raise awareness through the local red dress event on May 5.

COLD LAKE - Red dresses were blowing in the breeze along Hwy. 28 as the community marked National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

On May 5, families and friends remembered their missing and murdered loved ones by standing with their photo and a red dress along the road from the Joe Heffner Park to the Cold Lake Native Friendship Centre.

Passersby honked their horns in support, with members of the First Nations and Métis Settlement, local Friendship Centre, City of Cold Lake, Cold Lake and District FCSS, and RCMP participating in the event organized by Gabrielle Whiskeyjack.
