Creativity and crafts on the table at fall extravaganza

Crop Haven held their Fall Extravaganza on Oct. 13-15, at the MFRCS building on 4 Wing Cold Lake. Thirty people came out to work on a variety of crafting projects throughout the three day event.

COLD LAKE - Crop Haven held its fall extravaganza on Oct. 13-15, at the Military Family Resource Centre Society (MFRCS) building on 4 Wing Cold Lake. Thirty people came out to work on a variety of crafting projects throughout the three day event.

Some of the projects being worked on included Christmas cards, digital scrapbooks, diamond painting, and quilting.

Rhonda Macdonald was making Halloween gift bags. The money raised through the sale of her handmade products are donated to charity. Another woman made the Hocus Pocus house with Lego, and a series of Lego postcards.

Lesley Samuel, a committee member of Crop Haven stated the crops, which are held about seven times a year, are a great way to learn new crafts and new tools.

"You can spread out your projects on the table and leave them there for the weekend. The building is locked up at night, and people can just walk away," she explained.

The group partners with the MFRCS for the events. While many of the members used to work on base, are retired from the base, or have spouses working in the military, Samuel says anyone can join and they always welcome new members.

This year, the crop saw crafters coming from Lloydminster, Calgary, Pierceland, and Carstairs. The group shares knowledge and tools with each other.

"You don't need any of the tools to attend. People are willing to share their equipment and teach you how to use them," Samuel says.

The weekend included a table gift, fun challenges, food, chances to win door prizes, and three vendors. Anyone 16 and older can attend.

To join the group, contact the MFRCS at 780-594-6006. The next crop weekend will be Nov. 24-26 in the same location on 4 Wing.

In February, the group will be holding a garage sale where crafters can sell their projects.
