Families saddle up for fun at Cowboy Town in Ardmore

The sounds of laughter and horse hooves filled the air in Ardmore as families gathered for the Cowboy Town Adventure, hosted by the Cold Lake and District FCSS on Aug. 13.

ARDMORE – The sounds of laughter and horse hooves filled the air in Ardmore as families gathered for the Cowboy Town Adventure, hosted by the Cold Lake and District FCSS on Aug. 13.

The event drew participants from across the Lakeland, including newcomers to the area.

The day provided “an opportunity for families to come out and enjoy a wagon ride and spend some quality time together as a family with no cost,” according to Tanya Wilson, Family Resource Network Facilitator with Cold Lake FCSS. She said it was part of the FCSS department’s family adventure program, which focuses on providing “opportunities for families to spend time together.”

While the day was slightly scaled back due to expected rain, Wilson said there was still lots to do.

“We do have some large yard games out for the kiddos . . . nature eye-spies . . . and families have the opportunity to explore the property,” she said, noting that horse-drawn wagon rides and berry picking were among the highlights for many of the families.

The event was planned to include youth and families of all ages. Extended family members also took part, including some grandparents and aunts and uncles.

Families came from far and wide, including Bonnyville and Cold Lake, as well as residents who are new to the area.

“It’s not just Cold Lake . . . there are lots of reasons why people choose Cold Lake as their home,” Wilson said. She added that events like this are “an opportunity for those new families to see some of the cool things that are in our area.”
