COLD LAKE – A house is missing its roof and a metal fence now surrounds the property following a fire that took place on June 4 in Cold Lake South.

The fire that broke out in a private residence in the area of 49 Avenue and 49 Street is being considered suspicious, according to Fire Chief Jeff Fallow, with Cold Lake Fire-Rescue.

Cold Lake Fire-Rescue received the call to attend the structure fire just before 7 a.m. In addition to Cold Lake Fire-Rescue, the RCMP, EMS and ATCO also attended the scene.

Fire crews responded with six pieces of fire apparatus, which included three pumper trucks and an aerial apparatus, stated Fallow.

By the time crews arrived, the fire had already spread into the building’s attic space.

“In total, 21 firefighters responded to the scene from both City of Cold Lake fire stations and spent approximately two hours on scene extinguishing the fire, performing salvage and overhaul, and ensuring there were no hot spots [remaining],” Fallow told Lakeland This Week.

Once the fire scene was deemed safe the fire investigation started, spanning most of the day.

The investigation was concluded around 6 p.m. that night and ultimately found that the fire was suspicious, which was reported as such to the RCMP, said Fallow.

Cold Lake RCMP Staff Sgt. Wes Bensmiller confirmed that an investigation remains ongoing in the matter. No additional information was provided.
