Lakeland lacrosse teams excel at Ice Melter tournament

It was a busy few days for lacrosse players in the area, as the Ice Melter tournament was held between Bonnyville and Cold Lake, featuring both local teams and teams from across the province.

COLD LAKE - It was a busy few days for lacrosse players in the area, as the Ice Melter tournament was held between Bonnyville and Cold Lake, featuring both local teams and teams from across the province. 

A total of 27 teams in five divisions took part in the tournament, according to organizers, who are already planning ahead for next year’s tournament, which could include up to 40 players, with the addition of two female divisions, according to Chelsea Tilbury, Tournament Director with the Lakeland Lacrosse Association. 

On Sunday, a few local teams even took to the podium following the final games. 

Results from the weekend  

U17 Cold Lake Heat played the Sherwood Park Titans in the finals, with the Heat winning gold, 7-3. 

The U15 Heat played the Lloydminster Brutes in the finals, with the Brutes coming out ahead 6-5, claiming gold. 

For the U13 division, the Fort Saskatchewan Rebels took on the Vermilion Roar, with the Road winning 6-4.  

In the U11 division, it was the Lakeland Heat U11-1 playing fellow home-team the Lakeland Heat U11-2. The score would be 5-3 in favour of the U11-1 team. 

The Lakeland Heat U9-3 team also found their way to the finals on Sunday in the U9 category, playing the Lloydminster Brutes. The Brutes would win 9-1.
