COLD LAKE - Kinosoo Beach was a hive of activity, as hundreds of people from all over northern Alberta descended on Cold Lake to enjoy Aqua Days festivities on Aug. 5.
Saturday's summery weather was welcomed by those spending the day enjoying the water and activities dotted along the shoreline. The annual event is hosted by the City of Cold Lake and included live entertainment, a vendor alley, family-friendly activities and evening fireworks.
As always, the annual cardboard boat races drew crowds to the water front to watch as participants attempted to race each other in handmade boats constructed of only cardboard and duct tape.
While some boats quickly zipped to the finish line, others sunk before the races got going. Laughter among participants and spectators reinforced that it is not how well a boat does, it is how much fun participants had building their boat and taking part in the race that mattered.
Following the award presentations for the cardboard boat races, an educational Adventure Wrangler Dinosaur Show took centre stage. The youth-focused show taught kids about dinosaurs and reptiles. Audience members even got the chance to pet baby dinosaurs.
