Provincial gold won by four Lakeland soccer teams at Tier 4 championships

Cold Lake hosts Tier 4 Rural Alberta Soccer Provincials

COLD LAKE - Over the weekend, nearly two dozen soccer teams from the Lakeland participated in Tier 4 Rural Alberta Soccer Provincials held in Cold Lake.

Of the 15 Lakeland-based teams that took part in the provincial tournament, six local teams took home hardware and two teams were presented the Fair Play Award for their division.

Local teams that earned gold at provincials included the Lakeland United U19 Boys, Bonnyville U17 Girls, Bonnyville U15 Boys and the Bonnyville U15 Girls.

Swiping silver in their respective division was the Lakeland United U17 Boys team. The Cold Lake U19 Girls team would finish provincials with a bronze medal.

Several Lakeland teams came up just short of medalling in their divisions. Teams that finished in fourth place included the St. Paul U19 Boys, Verm-St. Paul U19 Girls, Cold Lake U17 Girls, Cold Lake U15 Boys, and the Cold Lake U13 Girls team.

The Bonnyville U13 Boys and the Vegreville U13 Girls finished provincials in fifth place, while the Cold Lake U13 Boys and the Bonnyville U13 Girls finished the tournament in sixth place.

Local teams that received the Fair Play Award include the Bonnyville U15 Boys team and the Bonnyville U15 Girls team.
