COLD LAKE - Athletes and visitors stopping by the Reid Field House at the Cold Lake Energy Centre may notice a fresh new look to the facility.

The field house has undergone its first resurfacing since the facility first opened in 2008, according to information from the City of Cold Lake.

"The project was recently completed, with a new urethane coating and reapplication of the existing sports lines in the facility. Also added where lines for six sets of badminton courts, six sets of pickleball courts and eight new core holes to allow for the posts and nets where needed," reads information from the City. Two basketball nets have also been installed to increase the scope of programming at the field house.

The floor resurfacing and basketball net installation was completed at a total project cost of just over $124,000.

“This facility has hosted everything from fundraisers to fight nights,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “It has seen trade shows, concerts, kids’ birthday parties, provincial tournaments, and has even been converted into a shelter for families escaping wildfires. Over the years, the Reid Field House has served our community well and it is good to see the facility well taken care of. The facelift it has received should see many more community events and milestones.”

The Reid Field House is 1,400 square metres in size. The new floor was changed to a base colour of grey rather than green to better accommodate the facility’s frequent role as a space for galas, fundraisers and special events, according to the City.

The facility has lines that can accommodate a variety of sports, including badminton, pickleball, cross-court volleyball, volleyball, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, and cross-court basketball.
