COLD LAKE - Ruffles the Turkey is gearing up to make a meaningful contribution to the Cold Lake Food Bank. Starting on Nov. 1 and continuing until Dec. 8, Ruffles the Turkey will be on a mission to raise funds and gather donations in order to raise 400 turkeys for families in need during the upcoming Christmas season.

The annual Great Cold Lake Turkey Race serves as assistance to families who might find themselves in a situation of food scarcity during the holiday season. In response to the need, Cold Lake's Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) has created a means to facilitate contributions to the food bank, ensuring that no family has to endure hunger during this special time of year.

"Every year, the fundraiser helps someone. I like to donate when I can. It means more to people who need it. It’s a really good cause,” said Bob Esher, a Cold Lake resident who has donated in the past.

According to the information from the City of Cold Lake FCSS, individuals can help the cause by making a personal donation, or they can choose to contribute on behalf of their family members. Additionally, for those who choose to donate on behalf of someone else, they will receive a special card from FCSS that can be placed in a Christmas stocking or a holiday card.

Residents can also make group contributions by submitting a form on behalf of their sports team, school, community group, or business, for example.

The donation form is readily accessible on the City of Cold Lake website and conveniently printable for those who wish to drop it off in person at the Cold Lake and District FCSS office, situated at 5220 54 Street, Cold Lake. Alternatively, a digital copy can be sent via email to [email protected] for processing.

The Cold Lake Food Bank provides tax receipts for donations, ensuring that the generosity is acknowledged. As a heartfelt gesture of appreciation, every $25 contribution will earn the donor a distinctive "turkey token" to proudly display, symbolizing their commitment to the initiative.

FCSS will be accepting various forms of monetary donation, including cash, cheques, and e-transfers. By offering this flexibility, the organization hopes to accommodate all individuals who wish to participate.

For those seeking support during the holiday season, reaching out to the food bank is the first step to accessing a Christmas food hamper. All household members must provide photo identification to receive assistance.
