Seniors celebrated with fun, games and food

A long list of events took place in Cold Lake, in honour of Seniors' Week from June 5 to 9.

COLD LAKE - On June 8, the Cold Lake Seniors' Society offered several events in honour of Seniors' Week, at Heritage Hall.

In the morning, 28 people took part in a painting class offered by local artist Linda Dunn.

At noon, there was a luncheon for 90 people catered by Hard Deck Smokehouse and Rec Room. And in the afternoon, there was floor curling.

Door prizes were given out during the day. All the activities from June 8 were funded by a grant provided by Cold Lake and District FCSS.

Seniors Week ran from June 5 to June 9 and included a long list of events offered, such as a pancake breakfast on June 5, a barbecue on June 6, and Seniors' First Aid on June 7. On Friday, an inter-generational tea, fitness classes, flower arranging, and more were also offered to seniors.

Events were supported by Cold Lake & District FCSS, the City of Cold Lake, MD of Bonnyville, and the Government of Alberta, along with other local partners.

On June 15, a training session called Taking Action Against Elder Abuse is also being held in recognition of World Elder Abuse Day for anyone 18 years old and over. Registration is required, but is free, and can be done through FCSS.
