COLD LAKE – On Sunday, two separate motor vehicle collisions both involving two vehicles occurred along the same stretch of Highway 55 near Riverhurst Hall, roughly 500m apart.

Traffic was rerouted along Hwy 55 east of the Riverhurst Hall for a few hours as emergency crews initially responded to one motor vehicle collision, then another in the same area just a short time later.

At 11:45 a.m., Station 9 Cold Lake responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision.

“A vehicle driving west hit a vehicle stopped on the side of the road, and then hit the ditch,” stated Regional Fire Chief Dan Heney, with the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA).

The driver of one of the vehicles was transported to hospital with minor injuries and both vehicles were towed, confirmed Heney.

While that incident was happening, another two-vehicle collision occurred about 500m west of the first incident.

“One vehicle stopped to allow a garbage truck to turn off the highway and was struck from behind by a second vehicle, causing one of them to hit the ditch and roll over,” said Heney.

No one was transported by EMS in relation to the second two-vehicle collision, but both vehicles had to be towed.
