COLD LAKE - This year's Sparkle in the Park has an impressive 53 displays, up from 21 last year. The event takes place at the Cold Lake MD Campground Dec. 4 to 9.
Alexis Corbin with the Hearts for Healthcare Sparkle in the Park Planning Committee, said the first night on Dec. 4 saw 363 vehicles go through the holiday displays, and organizers received enough food donations to fill a SUV full of food for the local food bank.
This year, the route is larger as organizers added the bigger loop in the Cold Lake MD Campground due to the large increase in participants who wanted to create displays.
Corbin added, "Last year we only had enough to fill the main road, and so we are pleased to be able to expand the route."
This year is only the second ever Sparkle in the Park, but the community Christmas decorating initiative is proving to be a popular holiday event.
An outdoor artisan market is also planned for Saturday.
The lights are on from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night.
