EDMONTON — Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says the province is ramping up and expanding COVID-19 vaccinations to inoculate paramedics and other emergency service workers.

On Monday, Premier Jason Kenney said the province's supply of the vaccine will run out a week from now, "unless we get a huge surprise shipment."

On Thursday, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced the province would be following its original schedule for students to return to classrooms on Monday, Jan. 11.

Health measures will remain in place until at least Jan. 21

Alberta Health said in a statement that the province has received about 60,000 doses of vaccine and officials are rolling those out as they come in.

While the province's death toll keep growing, the government is attempting to vaccinate as many Albertans as possible. On Tuesday, Shandro defended the speed of the vaccinations and said 26,269 people had been vaccinated as of Monday.

From Dec. 28 to Jan. 3, the provincial R-value was 0.99. The R-value refers to how many more people each person with COVID-19 infects.
