MONTREAL — The world won't succeed in halting biodiversity loss without Indigenous participation and leadership, according to leaders attending a major United Nations conference in Montreal.

“I’m ridiculously proud of our boys,” said Krystal Gray. “They have put so much time into their sports and love what they do. Being able to represent their culture and play on Team Alberta is an amazing feat and we couldn’t be prouder of this accomplishment and the people they are becoming.”

OTTAWA — First Nations chiefs from Alberta and Saskatchewan are calling for their provinces to toss proposed legislation they say is inherently undemocratic, unconstitutional and infringes on Indigenous rights.

Calgary/Tsuut’ina Nation have announced their intention to present a bid to host the 2027 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG). A press release issued Dec. 1 stated the Indigenous Sport Council Alberta (ISCA) is in full support.

“If you want to understand Indigenous homelessness, which is a slow genocide, you first have to know and understand the history of this land and the impacts of colonization,” said Cardinal.
