Aurora students battle it out in lip syncing competition

The day of events was the first to held at the school since the COVID-19 pandemic

LAC LA BICHE - Students and staff at Aurora Middle School were given the opportunity to be rock stars for a day at the lip-sync battle which took place at the school on Feb. 13. The event got underway just after the school's lunch break, with each performance, regardless of whether it was by a solo act or group, given one minute to sing their song.

Many of the kids who took part in the competition played the part, dressing up as various famous rock stars and pop musicians as they performed in front of their peers, staff, and parents. The performances were judged on such criteria as lip syncing, stage presence, creativity, the ability to entertain, as well as costumes and props.

Finalists had to be ready to perform a second song from a list that included Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake it Off’, ‘I Want it That Way by the Backstreet Boys’, and ‘California Girls’ by Katy Perry.

Winners received candy baskets as prizes. There was also a Valentine’s Day for Grade 7 and 8 students and class parties for kids in grades 4-6.

While the lip-sync battle has been an annual tradition at Aurora Middle School for many years, it was discontinued during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Tuesday’s show being the first replay.
