Bold Center curling rinks get prepped for season

Ice professionals get the houses and hacks ready as curling season slides in

LAC LA BICHE - Over the past couple of weeks, Lac La Biche County maintenance crews, working alongside  Thorhild County-based contractor Hack to Hack Solution Inc., have been putting the finishing touches on the ice surface of the curling rink at the Bold Centre.

The annual work is carried out each October at the rinks inside the Bold Center, which do not operate year-round.

The work is in preparation of the upcoming season for the Lac La Biche Curling Club, which begins on Friday, Oct. 20.

Once the process of building the ice has been completed, foam dividers will then be installed between the curling lanes. This is to be followed by the installation of hacks, which are footholds curlers use to push themselves off from when delivering the rock.

The Lac La Biche District Curling Club season offers mixed, men's, junior, seniors and women's league nights in the season that runs until March.
