And now there are 10.
The Lac La Biche and District Chamber of Commerce avoided being mothballed at a general meeting held on Monday night that was attended by about two dozen people.
Although none of those in attendance stepped up to take on the roles of president, vice president or treasurer of the board, 10 people did let their names stand to be directors. The 10 will meet at a future date to determine which of them will step into executive roles on an interim basis.
If there is no executive, the board can't continue, says outgoing Chamber president Lina Yadlowsky, who was pleased to see some people stepping up — but hopes they go further to organize an executive.
The 10 new board directors include two Lac La Biche County councillors, one appointed to the Chamber and one who will represent her business interest. Other directors include two who were absent at the meeting, but sent messages expressing their interest, and some regional business owners like Tammy Tarrabain from Tarrabain Motors and Gail Broadbent, a local accountant.
Broadbent, a former Chamber president, stressed that she would not take on an executive role, and was pleased that several people she nominated to the director roles accepted.
There was no date set for when the new directors will meet.
