Construction crews connect temporary water line on 101st Street

It wasn’t only a block of Main Street that was disrupted by construction in Lac La Biche’s downtown core on Friday afternoon – a section of 101 Street near the IGA grocery store was also being dug up.

Lac La Biche County officials say Friday’s work on 101 Street is tied to the main construction project on Main Street that will block off the road for the next five months – but is only a temporary disruption.

Jihad Moghrabi, the manager communications with Lac La Biche County says the work, that closed down one side of 101 street, was to connect IGA’s temporary water line.

Flaggers directed traffic that passed through the area, which was marked off by orange construction cones. Moghrabi said that the work was expected to be completed by the weekend.

The current phase of the $32.5 million makeover of Main Street got underway on Tuesday, April 23. This year, the block of Main Street between 101st St. and 102nd St. closed for construction until Oct. 31.
