Craft sales showcase holiday creations

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas . . . craft shows.

With Christmas only a few weeks away, many folks are out and about shopping for presents for loved ones, not only at local businesses and department stores but also at seasonally-themed craft sales, which are common during this time of the year.

A recent sale, held  Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Lac La Biche Heritage Society featured many hand-crafted items, many created by the Ladies Crafters and Quilters. People who turned out for the sale browsed aisles filled plenty of unique locally-produced handcrafted items ranging from woodcrafts, colourful homemade Christmas wreaths and quilts and blankets to dolls, clothing and plastic figurines.

The event also featured a raffle for a handmade quilt and Christmas decor.

Janet Harrison is a member of the Lac La Biche Heritage Society as well as the Ladies Crafters and Quilters group. The group meets on Thursday afternoons and does quilting, crocheting, knitting and other activities.

Funds help community

She explained that the Christmas Craft Sale – which has been part of the local calendar of events during the festive season – features vendors from the community as well as the Ladies Crafters Quilters group. The event, she added is also an opportunity for members of the quilting group to sell merchandise to raise money to help out various community organizations.

“We sell our products that we make during the year, and we use that money, and we make donations to different groups,” Harrison told Lakeland This Week, explaining that in addition to monetary donations, members also make contributions of quilts, toques, mitts, and blankets.
