Craigend community barbecue offers food and fun

The event took place at the Craigend Hall on the evening of Aug. 27.

CRAIGEND - Freshly barbecued burgers, salad, dessert, fun activities and socialization were on offer at the annual Craigend Community Barbecue.

On a very hot Aug. 27 evening, people gathered at the Craigend Hall for the annual community barbecue, which also included live music and games.

Officials with Lac La Biche County Fire Rescue Services were set up on the back porch of Craigend Hall to speak with people about the Fire Smart program and encourage them to sign up.

Through the Fire Smart program, fire officials conduct free home assessments and free wood chipping services for residents of the municipality wanting to reduce the risk of wildfire on their properties.

The annual community barbecue is put on by the Craigend Recreation and Agricultural Society.

According to Molly Fyten, a member of the agricultural society, the event is not a fundraiser for the organization, but simply a way for people to get together and enjoy an evening of fun and food.

“It’s just a really informal get together of the community . . . show appreciation for everybody in the community as well,” Fyten said.
