It's going to be a very busy few days on northeastern Alberta highways. The Lac La Biche POST is offering you a few ways to make the trip easier and take a load off some of our main highways. The fear of the increased traffic has caused Northern Lights School Division officials to close schools over concerns of increased traffic around students, schools and school buses.

Here's some travel plans
36-28 The Main Highways south from Lac La Biche towards Edmonton are Hwy. 36 South and then West on Hwy 28.
55-63-55 Another option is Hwy 55 West through Boyle (highway becomes 63 south) to the intersection of Highway 28 turn west into Edmonton.
If roads are congested as an estimated 30,000 people have gone south from the Fort McMurray flames - there are lesser traveled highways to use

55-663-855-28 Highway 663 just west of Lac La Biche (turn at the Lac La Biche Transport intersection west on Highway 55) head west towards Boyle. About 10 KM past Hylo, turn left on 855 through Buffalo Lake and follow to Smoky Lake on Highway 28.
55-663-831-28 If you chose to stay on 663 to Boyle, you can turn south on Secondary 831and that takes you to Waskatenau on Hwy 28.
Both roads can be driven further south, with 831 ending at Lamont near Fort Saskatchewan and 855 winding south west to Highway 45 and taking drivers to Gibbons on Hwy. 55.
Whoever is on the roads tomorrow, please drive safely as there is sure to be more traffic.
