PLAMONDON – Members of the École Plamondon School Class of 2025 celebrated the end of 12 years of schooling with their graduation ceremony on June 28.
Dressed in blue and white gowns and caps, the 30 members of the graduation class marched into Plamondon’s Festival Centre with family members and friends watching as they made their way onto the stage.
Following the singing of ‘Oh Canada’ and a land acknowledgement by graduate Teaghan Kanzig, the celebration began with opening remarks by principal Karen Grygus.
There were short speeches from Blair Norton, a member of the Northern Lights Public Schools (NLPS) board of trustees, Lorrie Makepeace, director of learning for NLPS, as well as Lac La Biche County Mayor Paul Reutov and Ward 3 councillor Colette Borgun.
Several awards were presented to members of the graduation class, who then received their diplomas.
The graduation ceremony was followed by a banquet that took place that evening.
The valedictorian for the class of 2025 was Hannah Watson who said the honour came as a surprise, albeit a pleasant one.
“Honestly, I thought it was going to be someone else, but here I am so, feeling pretty good,” Watson said.
When asked about her high school experience, Watson said this involved plenty of hours studying but also having fun and making friends along the way.
Now that she has graduated, Watson plans to work and then figure what career path to take, which may include a profession in the sciences.
As for words to give to her fellow graduates, the school valedictorian advised them to behave themselves as they go out into the world.
“We’ve been a pretty mischievous class,” Watson said with a smile and a laugh. “Honestly, we’re an odd bunch, but I think we can all make something out of ourselves.”
