Fast-food workers charged with theft from Lac La Biche-area restaurant

Grill owners say thousands of dollars not accounted for

LAC LA BICHE - Two men have been charged in connection to the alleged theft of thousands of dollars from a Lac La Biche-area fast-food restaurant.

RCMP say two local men are facing charges of theft over $5,000 after an investigation began on March 15 following a complaint by the owners of Joe's Grill at the 881 Corner Gas location on Lakeland Drive.

Police say charges were officially sworn against the two men on April 28.

"Lac La Biche RCMP initiated an investigation into reports of theft over $5,000 and as a result of that investigation two men are facing charges," says RCMP Corp. Deanna Fontaine.

As the matter is currently before the courts, Fontaine could not comment on details of the investigation.

While police would not comment on the total of money linked to the allegations, the owners of the restaurant say they suspect more than $25,000 in revenues has not been accounted for over the last five years. The owners say one of the accused had been at the restaurant for just over two years and the other one has been there for five years.

Allan Sarmiento Alegre, 49, and Roderick Pineda, 45, both from the Lac La Biche area, have each been charged with a single count of theft over $5,000.

Both individuals have been released from custody and make their first appearance relating to the charges on Monday, June 21 in Lac La Biche Provincial Court.
