Fire destroys building at Bonesville

Initial reports say no one was at rural property when fire crews arrived

A mid-morning fire on Tuesday completely destroyed a large out-building and several storage areas around an old trailer in a rural subdivision south of the Lac La Biche hamlet. The fire was called-in by Alberta Forestry staff at who spotted the smoke plume at about 11 a.m coming from a back-lot of the Bonesville subdivision located five kilometres south of La La Biche on Highway 36.

Firefighters from Lac La Biche County's Firehall 1 responded quickly, but the blaze had already destroyed a large, metal-roofed shed and scorched smaller structures next to an old trailer. While the trailer showed signs of recent occupancy, officials at the scene said they didn't believe anyone was inside when the fire broke out. A portion of the Bonesville subdivision — a rural cul-de-sac with approximately 25 homes — was blocked off by community peace officers as fire crews worked at the scene. The crews spent about two hours at the property, putting out hotspots and making sure none of the surrounding forested area was threatened.

The cause of the fire was not immediately identified.

LakelandToday has contacted Lac La Biche County's Regional Fire Chief John Kokotilo, and he is expected to provide more details on the fire.
