Prices drop again, but local fuel still higher priced than regional average

Prices at Lac La Biche fuel stations have dropped by 5 cents per litre, bringing local pricing closer to city and regional low prices.

While the global price of oil continues to spiral downward, creating economic challenges for provincial leaders and the industry, everyday consumers are seeing savings when it comes to fueling up at the pumps.

In Lac La Biche, the Main Street Petro Canada fuel retailer has dropped prices by another five cents per litre for regular gasoline. The price at the Petro-Can station is now 85.9 cents per litre of regular gasoline. The same retail location lead a community-wide price drop three weeks ago, bringing the price of fuel down below a dollar a litre for the first time in several years.

The POST has sent a message to the store's new owners, asking for comments on the dip in pricing.

Low prices

While the Lac La Biche price is down more than 20 cents from where it was at the beginning of February, prices in larger centres and at retailers within the region have also seen significant drops. According to Gasbuddy.com, the average price for a litre of regular fuel in Edmonton today is 70.9 cents, with some retailers as low as 64.9. Regionally, the Petro-Canada station in St. Paul was set at 79.9 cents per litre, and Redwater was posting regular fuel today at its Petro-Can at 69.9 cents per litre.

The price per barrel of West Texas Intermediate crude oil as of today was down to $22, a drastic drop from February where it sat at $60 per barrel. In 2015, the price per barrel was trading at more than $100.
