Lac La Biche library hosting LEGO competition in February

Most kids know that building creations out of LEGO is a lot fun. But it's not just kids who are invited to connect and have fun at the Lac La Biche County Libraries LEGO Competition.

There has been a lot of build-up for the event that happens on Feb. 3.

The contest, which will take place at Lac La Biche's Stuart MacPherson Public Library, will be split into four age categories ranging from six to adult, with prizes awarded to winners in each division.

The finished products can be built on-site or brought to the library for judging on the day of the competition. Creations can either be built or dropped off between 11 am and 3 pm.

Laney Smith, the programming coordinator for Lac La Biche County Libraries, said participants can either use their own LEGO blocks, or use a stockpile available at the library. Organizers are hoping to build on last year's success.

“Last year we had over 60 participants,” Smith told Lakeland This Week. “In the past people have made a variety of creations from a Mario figurine, a dragon’s den and a winter wonderland.”

Participants can make any original creation so long as it adheres to the guidelines, which include the use of only genuine LEGO bricks, a height restriction of no more than four-feet and an area restriction of no more than two-square feet.

While LEGO enthusiasts might have many ideas in mind, only one creation per person may be entered.

Along with the four age categories, there are also categories for best onsite build as well as viewer’s choice.
