Two hours and 45 minutes after the polls closed and with only 56 votes separating them, mayoral candidate Gail Broadbent-Ludwig says she new it was going to be a close race between her and incumbent candidate Aurel Langevin. "I did honestly expect it to be close," she said. "I knew right from the get-go it was going to be a tough go. I knew the voters were going to have a tough time making the decision on who to vote for." Broadbent-Ludwig says the race was so close because of the different things both her and Langevin have to offer the residents of Lac La Biche County. "We are both very strong candidates and it has been really interesting watching these numbers come in," she said. "We both have different strengths that we can bring to the table." The race leading up to election day was civil and Broadbent-Ludwig says the mood surrounding their campaigns has to do with respect. "I strongly believe Aurel and I have a high mutual respect for each other," she said. "We were both putting out names in and it was going to be what it was going to be. I am very proud of how the whole election went. We can both hold our head very high." And now, Broadbent-Ludwig is just waiting for the last of the ballot counts to come in. "We are very anxiously awaiting the last bit," she said. Keep checking the POST's Facebook page and our website for real-time updates.
