LAC LA BICHE - On Sept. 6, people will have the opportunity to enjoy the facilities at the Bold Centre in Lac La Biche at no cost, during the annual Bold Free Day.
Mel Wheaton, administrative coordinator for Lac La Biche County, said Bold Free Day is the one day a year when the doors of the Bold Centre are opened for free for everyone to come and experience what the recreational facility has to offer.
“This day welcomes everyone to come try the programs, services, and amenities the Bold Centre offers in a fully inclusive and welcoming environment,” Wheaton said.
According to Wheaton, admission is free for the entire day, and scheduled activities and demos are available between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
According to information from Lac La Biche County, kids’ activities will be taking place onsite from 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., while sports demonstrations are scheduled to be held at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., and 2 p.m.
Special Olympics Alberta will be at the Bold Centre from 12-2 p.m., while KidSport will be onsite from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Bold Free Day will also feature fitness demonstrations, giveaways, youth, adult, and family prize packs, as well as a chance to enter to win two tickets to the next Bold Centre concert.
Wheaton explained that people of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate in Bold Free Day.
“Staff will be on hand to promote different activities, provide demos of upcoming classes, engage with users to find out if other barriers or circumstances may affect their ability to participate . . . and helps us address service gaps in our community,” Wheaton said.
Bold Free Day has been taking place since 2015.
“We used to offer it in January and moved it to September a few years ago to coincide with Member Appreciation Week, so [we are] hoping for a great turnout,” she explained. “Next year, 2026, marks the Bold Centre’s 15th anniversary and opening of the new aquatic centre, so will have some amazing things planned to celebrate these events.”
