Lac La Biche workshops will ease body and mind, says nutrition expert

The Bold Centre will be hosting two workshops in the coming weeks and months focused on mental well-being and methods for people to alleviate stress in their lives.

LAC LA BICHE - The Bold Centre will be hosting two workshops in the coming weeks and months focused on mental well-being and methods for people to alleviate stress in their lives.

The workshops, one in November and one next February, are called Healthy Mind, Happy Body, and Mind Body Reset. The sessions are being taught by Sue LaPierre, a fitness instructor, holistic nutrition expert and personal trainer with Lac La Biche County.

The two workshops run one-after-the-other on each of the session nights —  Nov. 7 and Feb. 6 — both beginning at 5:30 p.m., and finishing at about 8 p.m.

LaPierre stated that the two workshops are designed to complement each other.

“In the Healthy Mind, Happy Body workshop I will be teaching people the negative effects of stress on the body,” she explained. “Even though we may feel as though we are managing stress (both good and bad stress) we still may develop symptoms that we might not attribute to stress, for example, headaches, digestive issues, trouble sleeping, skin conditions (to name a few).

Mind Body Reset will show participants how to alleviate muscle tension and improve flexibility using a variety of release techniques and tools including foam rollers, tennis balls, straps, Bender Balls, and bands.

“This mat-based workshop goes beautifully with the Healthy Mind, Happy Body Workshop, pairing breathing techniques with each move, helping to calm and clear the mind,” LaPierre said.

During the workshops, LaPierre will be sharing with participants ways to mitigate stress using natural methods such as nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices.

“I have a diploma in Advanced Holistic Nutrition and will be summarizing my research on the physiological effects of stress on the body in this presentation,” she explained. “We really do need to look at the whole picture when creating a healthier physical, mental, and emotional environment to help the body function, thrive, and heal,” she said. “In Mind Body Reset the objective here is to give people the tools to alleviate physical and mental stress.”

The cost of each workshop of $15. Pre-registration is required. Those wanting to register can contact the Bold Centre.
