Latest Beautification winners were surprised with award

Lac La Biche County couple enjoy creating attractive homefront

Lac La Biche County’s Rural Beautification Award is presented to one recipient annually by the Agricultural Services Board (ASB). The 2021 winners, Barry and Tracy Chwedoruk, didn’t even know they were nominated for the award until they received a phone call from the county staff saying they had won, says Barry Chwedoruk.

“It was a nice gesture and honour to win the award and to be recognized. It was a lot of hard work.”

Barry and Tracey have spent a significant amount of time over the years renovating their 20-acre property located just south of the Lac La Biche hamlet, says Barry. Natural stone — that he meticulously collected — helped to highlight a feature rock garden, while repainting outside walls and features, mixed with Tracy’s love for flower beds, were the main projects that added to the property.

The time it has taken to create the ideal landscape and finalize all the pieces was “pushed” a little, admits Barry with a laugh, due to a recent wedding on the property.

The $500 dollar award and cedar fence plaque presented to this year’s winners, by Lac La Biche County Councillor George L’Heureux, recognizes rural property owners for their efforts in adding to their communities beauty and creating pride.

Barry says he and his family would like to thank the community for nominating their property and thank the municipality and the Ag Service Board for the award.
